Our European Graduate Programme
You will join a cohort of graduates across our European locations and together with your peers across the Group, you’ll undertake a structured learning programme that will equip you with skills essential for your future career. This learning starts with an induction week in London and is followed by a combination of virtual and in person training (in London) throughout the course of your graduate programme. Through this training, you’ll learn about the insurance industry, develop your financial acumen and presentation skills and explore behaviours that will help you be successful at work.
Our graduate scheme is designed to give you a broad understanding of our European business. In addition to your core role, you’ll take on two secondments in different European locations – each secondment is three months long and one will be in our Lisbon office. You’ll also spend a few days in our Luxembourg office learning about the regulatory environment we operate in, and you may also have an opportunity to be involved in a European-wide project, such as developing a new product offering.
The programme is designed for maximum career impact. Throughout your time on the graduate scheme you’ll be supported by a senior level sponsor who sits on the European Management Team, as well as having regular access to the CEO of Hiscox Europe. Following the scheme, opportunities for upward and lateral progression are available to you. Your time on the scheme will equip you to be competent in your role, with a wide skill set and an understanding of our European business – equipping you well for future roles not just in your own team, but in our European business more broadly.
person specification:
Your role as a Claims Graduate
Your main objective as a Claims Graduate is to deliver an efficient, high quality claims service in the field of commercial lines claims, including Professional Indemnity, Cyber and Directors and Officers. You will be part of a talented and ambitious team that strives to deliver a high quality service to clients and their brokers; whilst maintaining and enhancing the great Hiscox reputation for its claims handling service.
The role will include direct communication with the Insured, loss adjusters, lawyers and our Intermediaries, managing the relationship with policyholders and assessing the size of the claim’s potential severity. Your training on the graduate programme will support you in developing the skills to effectively manage these stakeholders.
The emphasis here is on providing an extremely customer focused claims handling service, whilst managing indemnity spend. You’ll therefore be solutions driven and customer oriented – challenging the status quo and exploring different options to satisfy our customers. You’ll enjoy being able to apply your law background, dealing with complex legal issues and working in a role with a high level of autonomy and responsibility.
In addition to managing your own claims, you will have regular contact with underwriters and brokers to understand and improve the level and quality of service. You will have the opportunity to participate at external events, support our product development and get involved in business wide projects.
What qualifications do I need?
You will have successfully gained a degree in Law and completed your first state examination, or have studied your first degree in Law in another country and have since completed (or expecting to achieve) your Masters in Law (LLM) in Germany.
Any other requirements?
You’ll be happy to be mobile for the duration of the scheme (ending 31st December 2025) and understand that being flexible on location after the scheme will help to accelerate your career and enable you to fulfill your potential.
You’ll be able to speak and write fluently in German and English – other languages would be an advantage, but are not essential.
The successful candidate must, by the start of the employment, have permission to work in Germany. You’ll be able to join the programme in September 2023.
