  • Develop, implement, and coordinate a comprehensive biological safety program for the company to enhance institutional biosafety-related objectives and to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, guidelines, policies, and directives
  • Coordinate, quality control, and monitor the delivery of biosafety education and training to any and all company staff who work with or have potential for exposure to biological pathogenic agents
  • Monitor all company storage and distribution activities involving the use of hazardous biological materials for compliance with appropriate regulations, policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Review activities involving biohazardous materials and approve or recommend modifications to ensure safe practices; provide guidance and/or perform follow-up as appropriate
  • Inform and educate company staff regarding biosafety issues and develop comprehensive biosafety educational programs
  • Oversee the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion, enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluate performance and make recommendations for personnel actions; motivate employees to achieve peak productivity and performance
  • Inspect depots for compliance with regulations and guidelines pertaining to the use, handling, and disposal of potential biohazards; coordinate the review and investigation of all biosafety accidents occurring at the company, and develop corrective action plans
  • Develop and implement emergency response procedures for incidents involving biohazardous materials, and maintain the company incident action plan for biohazards; develop medical surveillance criteria for activities involving biohazards and related materials; respond to biohazardous materials incidents as appropriate
  • Serve as principal source of expertise regarding appropriate equipment, facilities, and work practices for protecting staff, and the environment from contamination and infectious organisms
  • Provide technical guidance to faculty and staff in the development of safety plans for grant applications; advise facilities and physical plant staff regarding technical and programmatic issue involving laboratory biosafety design and maintenance
  • A successfully completed degree or apprenticeship
  • Several years of professional experience in the above-mentioned field of activity desirable
