BACKEND/FULL-STACK DEVELOPER (F/M/D)

Join us in shaping the future of communication in the scientific community. As a member of the engineering team, you will be responsible for designing software and architecture that enhances digital products for our readers, researchers and authors. As a member of the Platform & Technology Department, you will work in an international and cross-functional/ interdisciplinary team. You will combine your technical expertise and a can-do attitude with the goal of continuously improving our platform’s user experience. This is a permanent role based in our Berlin office.

YOUR TASKS

  • Developing, re-engineering, enhancing, and maintaining the backend for multiple digital applications (plus frontend when a full-stack dev)
  • Contributing to the overall design and architecture of De Gruyter’s platform and digital applications in partnership with multiple business stakeholders
  • Finding creative ways to solve difficult business and technical issues
  • Helping to shape the agile organization as a team player

YOUR PROFILE

  • 3+ years of experience as a backend or full-stack developer with a strong focus on clean code and scalable infrastructures
  • Experience in API backend development using technologies Scala, Java, Python… (Scala-Play is a big plus)
  • Ability to communicate in both English and German

Nice to have:

  • Experience in working within an AWS / micro service environment
  • Experience working with XML documents
  • Experience in relational/NoSQL databases and data models
  • Comfortable using modern DevOps tools like Ansible, Packer, Terraform, Gitlab C, etc
  • Experience in a start-up or a science publishing house
