Bachelor or Master student in the field of Sustainability and Production (d/f/m), title of thesis “Automated Fibre Placement (AFP) with recycled CFRP-Spools”

For CTC GmbH in Stade, we are looking for students for a master thesis. The CTC GmbH is a 100% subsidiary of Airbus Operations GmbH. CTC is Germany’s leading centre for research and development in the field of design and production of large and complex CFRP components; with an international reputation as an expert for process development, series readiness and production optimisation.

The focus will be on reducing carbon fibre waste by using rewound, end of spool material in an automated fibre placement process. You will have the opportunity to gain a deep understanding of composite materials and automated fibre placement, as the successful candidate you will develop and evaluate a solution for reducing carbon fibre waste in aviation production of CFRP parts while closely collaborating with the robotic machine producer.

To prepare and clearly define the thesis, an internship before beginning the thesis would be appreciated / required.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Literature research on relevant topics and requirements analysis
  • Hands on work on developing an AFP machine and process capable of handling rewound CFRP spools together with experts at the CTC
  • Supporting sustainability in aviation

Desired Skills And Qualifications

  • Course of study: e.g. mechanical, electrical, automation or manufacturing engineering, aerospace engineering (or comparable course of study)
  • First experiences in programming robotics and or automation
  • Knowledge in CFRP manufacturing is helpful
  • Ability to work independently and on your own responsibility
  • Intrinsic motivation and interest in improving sustainability in production
  • High intrinsic motivation, teamwork and communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial thinking and acting
  • Willingness to pass on own competences in a team and to exchange skills with each other
  • Language skills: Professional English and or professional German skills
