Company Overview:

Our customer specializes in providing comprehensive solutions for industrial and commercial automation needs, ranging from network installations to complex Production Line systems. They are committed to supporting our clients from the initial stages of automation planning to successful deployment.

Position Overview:

As an Automation Solutions Engineer, you will be responsible for various tasks, including networking and brand development within the industrial automation market, researching, generating and nurturing leads in the international PLC / SPS market, customer visits, project design, cost estimation, and facilitating effective communication between our South African project team and European counterparts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Networking and Industry Brand Development: Actively engage in networking activities to foster the company’s brand in the industrial automation sector.
  • Market Research and Lead Generation: Conduct research in the PLC / SPS international market and nurture leads for potential projects.
  • Customer Engagement and Project Design: Visit customers to discuss project requirements, aid in conceptual facility design, and prepare project cost estimates.
  • Internal and External Coordination: Serve as a liaison between the South African project team and European-based activities.
  • Site Supervision and Project Management: Oversee on-site surveys, design reviews, and manage installation teams and subcontractors during facility installation and commissioning.
  • Supplier Base Development: Develop and maintain a European supplier base by evaluating competence, strategic fit, delivery, and quality.
  • Training and Skill Development: Train junior application engineers in Germany to enhance skill sets and align with the company’s expansion in Europe.

    • Job Requirements:

    • A University degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
    • 2-3 years’ experience in Application Engineering, particularly in PLC / SPS (HMI and Robot Programming).
    • Knowledge and experience in systems integration (PLC, HMI, Robotics, Motion Control, industrial networking, and LV power distribution).
    • Practical hands-on experience in industrial automation, particularly in the automotive manufacturing sector.
    • Willingness to travel, as moderate travel will be required.
    • Entrepreneurial, dynamic, motivated, and proactive with the ability to take initiative and think creatively.
    • Strong communication skills, in German and in English, with the ability to work independently.

    Preferred, but not required:

    • Experience in Sales & Marketing.
