to investigate "Molecular parameters for the dynamic assembly of Hedgehog signalling platforms".
The successful applicant will investigate fundamental mechanisms of Hedgehog (Hh) regulated morphogenesis in vitro and in vivo within the framework of the established SFB 1348 “Dynamic Cellular Interfaces: Formation and Function” (http://sfb1348.uni-muenster.de/de). Hh proteins control cell growth and survival, but also act as morphogens that pattern almost every aspect of the vertebrate and invertebrate body. How the single Hh morphogen can act in such a wide variety of functions is the focus of our research. In the past, by investigating developmental, cellular, and molecular aspects of Hhs and its interaction partners using a broad spectrum of approaches, we have generated pioneering insight into Hh mobilization and bioactivation at the cell surface. The PhD project aims to better understand the function of the initial step of Hh release from the surface of the cell that produces it, and to characterize the molecular function of Hh release regulators called Dispatched and SCUBE2. To this end, a wide variety of biochemical and advanced light microscopic techniques will be used. The institute of Physiological Chemistry and Pathobiochemistry (https://www.medizin.uni-muenster.de/physiolchem-1.html) and collaborating groups within the SFB provide an exciting interdisciplinary atmosphere and state-of-the-art laboratory space and technical infrastructure.
The prerequisite for this appointment is a master’s degree in biology, biochemistry or related fields. Motivated individuals with a background in cell or developmental biology, microscopy or biochemistry are encouraged to apply. Command of the German language is an advantage, as the applicant will participate in institute teaching (limited to one practical course for medical students, three afternoons per semester).
Please send your application (a motivation letter, CV and copies of the Master certificates electronically as one single PDF file) until 15.06.2022 to bewerbung[AT]ukmuenster.de.
Due to legal requirements working with us is only permitted with complete vaccination against COVID-19 and measles.
Applications of women are specifically invited. In the case of similar qualifications, competence, and specific achievements, women will be considered on preferential terms within the framework of the legal possibilities. Handicapped candidates with equivalent qualifications will be given preference.
