What you’ll do

• Management of an application technology laboratory with focus on rubber compounding and testing
• Scientific preparation and evaluation of experimental plans as well as documentation, compilation and presentation of technical results internally and externally
• Management of development projects, in close cooperation with the Business Development and Product Development departments as well as with key customers and industry partners
• Detailed analysis of the RFF-performance in various rubber applications
• Strategic future development of the application technology laboratory with respect to training of personnel, method development and implementation of new technologies
• Design and supervise research programs with universities, research institutes and other external partners
• Support and actively contribute to intellectual property activities, including literature monitoring and patent evaluation

Who you are

• You have a PhD in Chemistry, Material Science, Physics or a comparable background
• You have profound knowledge in rubber technology
• You can tackle problems in a systematic manner
• You are highly enthusiastic, creative, open-minded, results-oriented and a strong team-player with good communication skills
• You enjoy working with a high degree of autonomy
• You have a strong command of spoken and written English and German
• You are able to cope with pressure
• You are willing to travel

End-use segments for renewable glycols include textiles, PET bottles, packaging, coolants, composites, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and detergents. Lignin-based renewable functional fillers offer a sustainable alternative to carbon black and silica in a broad range of rubber and plastic applications. UPM is building an industrial scale biorefinery in Leuna, Germany to convert solid wood into next generation biochemicals.
