Primary Responsibilities
  • Serve as a Consultant in the design, Implementation and administration of a progressive talent development program for the Steelcase and its functions
  • Conceptualize the electrical control system solution that is necessary for a given project, develop a design, and program and debug the system using knowledge of codes and standards including but not limited to NEC, NFPA, OSHA, MIOSHA, ANSI, etc.
  • Troubleshoot new and existing electrical control systems
  • Manage multiple large projects. Assist in the scheduling and coordination of any internal or external resources needed to complete a project, estimate the project cost, document the project, and follow up with the customer to ensure satisfaction. Seek out cost reduction opportunities for existing processes
  • Clarify design issues and direct Machine Build Electricians, Plant Maintenance Electricians, Machine Builders and Tooling Personnel
  • Make electrical control recommendations to other disciplines, including Safety, Manufacturing Engineering, Facilities and Production
  • Research and evaluate new technology for electrical control systems, including machine controls, robotics and insdustrial applications of personal computers
  • Serve as a technical resource for corporate-wide electrical personnel
  • Promote and author the Corporate Electrical Controls Specification for automated equipment standards
  • Lead technical training seminars, classes and programs for electrical personnel
  • Provide training, guidance and procedural information for other engineers in the department
  • Assist the department manager in tracking and studying department measures (project completion, cost, etc.)
  • Help develop processes and guidelines to improve department efficiencies
Required Skills
  • Must have programming skills beyond Ladder logic and ability to program multi-processor equipment’s
  • Lean Design Thinking/Lean Manufacturing
  • Must know how to integrate control components into multiple systems
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects and meet project commitments and customer expectations
  • Must be able to offer electrical design solutions to complex machine designs, including but not limited to servo applications
  • Must proficiently use AutoCAD and generate hardware schematics
  • Must be competent in all, and expert in at least two of the following: CNC, Sensors (discrete & analog), Servo Controls, Industrial Networks, Data collection, Robotics, Instrumentation, Welding (MiG & resistance), Vision systems.
  • Fluent in English and German. Any other relevant European language is a plus.
Required Experience
  • University degree in Electrical Engineering or electrical technical field
  • Electrical controls experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in the implementation of robotics or automation in production process
