With our headquarters at the BioMedizinZentrum Dortmund, we cover all core drug research disciplines, in particular medicinal chemistry, assay development and screening, biology and pharmacology.We are offering a position asLab Head Medicinal Chemistry (m/f/d) in Dortmund, GermanyYou Will Be Responsible ForFor our Medicinal Chemistry Department, we are looking for an experienced and motivated medicinal chemist, with a strong background in organic and medicinal chemistry. Proven knowledge of tool generation, hit-to-lead and lead optimization concepts on various compound and target classes to design chemical strategies addressing biological activity and ADME/toxicology properties, is required.
  • Establishing and co-ordinating Medicinal Chemistry/overall project related strategies for innovative drug discovery projects from hit identification through to candidate nomination.
  • Designing new molecules for testing and creation of structure-activity and structure-property relationships aiming at the identification of leads and drug candidates according to industry standards
  • Designing synthetic routes using modern organic chemistry for novel test compounds and for scale-up of interesting molecules.
  • Representing medicinal chemistry in project team meetings
  • Drafting of reports and patent strategies.
  • Supporting, guiding and steering external chemistry resources at collaboration partners and partnering CROs.
  • Supervision of 1-2 talented technicians performing in-house synthesis.
Your profile should include:
  • PhD in Organic/Medicinal Chemistry with an additional 5+ years of laboratory experience in medicinal chemistry in the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Excellent understanding of drug discovery, various hit finding strategies, multi-parameter optimization and IP strategies for various compound and target classes.
  • Experience contributing at all stages of a project from early project validation, hit and lead optimisation to candidate selection.
  • Methodology development and multi-step synthesis expertise.
  • Ability to collaborate in a dynamic/multidisciplinary environment and experience in leading a scientific team.
  • Ability to work closely with other experts in CADD, Biology, DMPK, Safety & CMC.
  • Good communication skills and fluency in English. Knowledge of German is an advantage but not a must.
