You will join the team responsible for Zalando’s AI-fueled online marketing. Since Spring 2018 we grew from 20 to over 60 applied scientists, engineers and product managers to revamp our marketing with AI in a world of increasing user privacy.

As an Applied Science Manager of the Traffic Platform Applied Science team you will enable talented scientists to deliver effective and scientifically-sound solutions to our main business problems estimating and optimizing the return on online marketing investment. Open-research problems are involved, at the intersection of econometrics, statistics, causal inference, reinforcement learning, giving opportunities for scientific contributions.

We are looking for a leader with passion for Machine Learning or Econometrics, with experience in driving change through high uncertainty. You will support the team working in a structured and transparent way and achieve results that we can all proudly celebrate.

WHERE YOUR EXPERTISE IS NEEDED

  • Team Management Recruit, empower and support Applied Scientists, reviewing and guiding their work, creating conditions for high-quality deliveries and career growth.
  • Project Management Support the team in defining and executing roadmaps, in a way that integrates the high level of uncertainty and complexity involved in our projects.
  • Applied Science Excellence Raise the bar, engage the team into defining and adopting always better standards in Applied Science and Software Engineering.
  • Communication and Leadership As a scientific competence center make sure the team collaborates smoothly with other teams and other job functions.

What We’re Looking For

  • Expertise (MSc, preferably PhD) in a quantitative field (Econometrics, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics), at a strong senior level.
  • Experience (2Y+) in people and/or project leadership under uncertainty and ambiguity.
  • Proven track record in developing solutions from initial idea to production .
  • Excellent communication skills, clarity and structure.
  • Analytical thinking and attention to detail our field is characterized by complexity where details matter, therefore we are in constant need for rigorous and detailed reviews of our initiatives.
