We have an exciting opportunity for a Java Software Engineer to join our European software engineering team. Based in Liverpool or Bochum, as a member of a dynamic, friendly, and close-knit team, you’ll have the opportunity to work on software that helps to keep millions of QVC’s global customers engaged, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. As well as working closely with other members of the development team, you’ll be collaborating with our architecture, cyber security and other engineering teams to develop future proof, secure solutions in some of the latest technologies. You’ll also have the opportunity to bring your expertise and experience to contribute to the technical direction of the team on future projects, and mentor less experienced team membersJob Description Details
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- You develop and maintain UIs, Java-based web applications, backend services and APIs while assisting less experienced team members in the organisation
- You participate in analysis and definition of requirements to prepare their implementation and estimations in the process of agile software development as a member of the cross-discipline Scrum team
- You follow best software development practices ensuring high code quality and compliance with standards
- You participate in CI/CD implementation for the developed solutions (including improving and using sustainable and automated code quality controls, build and deployment strategies and test automation practices)
- You ensure documentation for changes/extensions of current systems
- You troubleshoot application problems in test and production systems and drive toward resolution in the process communicating delays, risks, issues to right internal and external parties
- You cooperate and work effectively with other IT team members (cross-functional collaboration across different teams)
- You provide third level operational support for production systems with limited guidance
- Completed studies, e.g. in the field of Computer Science, Engineering or courses in related technology field
- Deep knowledge developing Java systems (e.g. Microservices) or reactive client web applications in agile methodology and of the software development life cycle (SDLC)
- working knowledge of Spring Framework, especially Spring Boot and knowledge with building RESTful APIs, incl. automation in build, test and deployment on premise and into cloud
- Working knowledge of RDBMS (e.g. MS SQL server) and data access technologies and first understanding of NoSQL DBs (e.g. Couchbase)
- Understanding of software architectures (micro-services, messaging, cloud) and ideally some practical experience with building UIs with JavaScript, Angular, React or other frameworks
- Working experience in Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment activities (using toolsets such as Jenkins, Maven, etc.)
- Understand and empbrace good engineering practices (clean code)
- Working experience with Jira / GIT / etc. related tooling for modern software engineering
- Ideally some experience with containers on Kubernetes or similar, Rancher, Spinnaker, Infrastructure as config (e.g. Goop), HashiCorp Consul, Spring cloud config
- Good knowledge of English in speaking and writing, ideally applied in truly globally distributed teams
