How will you make an impact?
You will be a member of a team that is passionate about our global effort to make a positive impact on people and the planet in support of the company’s goal towards net-zero emissions. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Environmental Sustainability, you will work on the Design for Sustainability Program to drive and embed sustainability in our product designs.

  • Be a net-zero change agent supporting the company goal of net-zero emissions
  • Support growth and continued development of Thermo Fisher Scientific’s greener products program, including maintaining sustainable design criteria for new product development
  • Increase product sustainability knowledge in R&D and generally in the organization

What will you do?
  • Develop strategy for enterprise wide implementation of green chemistry in the product development process
  • Generate and update content for training materials, tools, and references for R&D and Product Management teams as subject matter authority for more sustainable chemical selection in product design
  • Provide technical expertise and advisement for selection and prioritization of sustainable features relating to product design and process optimization.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) for products
  • Lead understanding and monitoring of the latest technologies for green chemistry and implications for advancements
  • Remain current through ongoing efforts to understand trends, work with leaders with vision, participate in industry associations and attend conferences
  • Bring together and use intra-company expertise and content to build knowledge resources for R&D teams
  • Drive the development of data collection and metrics to report impacts associated with sustainable product and process design
  • Compile and present progress to program managers for leadership report-outs and opportunities for improvement
  • Partner and collaborate with external suppliers and industry non-profits
  • Directly engage with customers and commercial partners to understand customer needs and recommend solutions to meet their sustainability goals

How will you get here?
Education
Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field

Experience
  • 8+ years bench level experience with Product or Process Development in or supporting industry, including 2+ years work experience in the development of sustainable product solutions
  • 5+ years experience in a global and heavily matrixed organization
  • Experience supporting LCA activities
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Green Chemistry principles and their application in product and process development
  • Knowledge of industrial practices and approaches to sustainable chemical selection, substitution and use (such as in formulations, small-batch processing, small-scale synthesis, and chromatography)
  • Working awareness of relevant chemical and environmental regulations (e.g., REACH, TSCA, RoHS)
  • Proven project management capabilities influencing functions outside area of direct authority

Skills and Abilities
  • An effective influencer with a passion for sustainability and innovating concrete solutions for sustained change
  • Strong organization and analytical skills and the ability to balance multiple detailed projects simultaneously
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex ideas verbally and in written form
  • Ability to work comfortably and efficiently in a fast-paced global environment with cross-functional teams and members from all levels
  • High proficiency with standard Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint) as well as statistical software
  • Required travel: <10% of time

The salary range estimated for this position is $134,300-205,100. This position will also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. Actual compensation will be confirmed in writing at the time of offer.
