We are recruiting a CAE Scientist (*) to strengthen our team in the Corporate Research Systems Laboratory located at our Neuss site, working closely with global and cross-functional teams.

As a CAE Scientist (*), you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with innovative people around the world to drive digital technologies.

  • Researching development of material modelling science and test methodologies across multiple disciplines (eg. mechanics, thermal, acoustics, fluids, multiphysics) linked to Materials Informatics to deliver material models for use in FEA
  • Strengthening automation in simulations and testing to deliver material data at scale for customers in the field of, for example, adhesives, filtration, films and abrasives
  • Collaborating with research teams and business labs to build digital capabilities and applications that use your scientific and computational skills
  • Establishing and leveraging networks with both internal specialists and relevant institutes & universities
  • Helping to build 3M’s brand externally in the area of material modelling

Your Skills And Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications:

  • Completed studies in a Science or Engineering discipline, preferably with several years of working or a PhD
  • Fluent in English
  • Good presentation and communication skills
  • A team player with a strong ability to work in a heterogenous agile team

Additional qualifications/experiences that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Practical experience in planning, conducting and evaluating experiments and in handling test equipment and data transfer
  • Ability to work with FEA/CFD software such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, COMSOL combined with programming using Python, MATLAB in the simulation of complex objects or systems, especially in the area of nonlinear simulations
  • Fast comprehension, analytical thinking and result-oriented working method
  • Ability to deal with the ambiguity of early-stage scouting, and flexibility to develop and drive new opportunities for customers
  • Creativity, innovative thinking and acting (lateral thinking)
