The Analytical Science Team is seeking an ambitious master’s student (m/f/d) to participate in an internship project where you will assist in exploring the suitability of analytical techniques such as single cell ICP-MS and pyrolysis GC-MS for the characterization of micro- and nanoplastics at our Stade, Germany location.

Project description

In this project you will implement and explore SC-ICP-MS and pyr-GC-MS for micro- and nanoplastic characterization. Our goal is to explore these technologies to identify the strength and possible limits for the determination of micro- and nanoplastics, their composition and quantities. The project covers every step from sample preparation, measurement to data evaluation. Detailed documentation is required. Our team speaks German, but the documentation will be in English.
The team you’ll be joining works dayshifts, mostly 8:00 am to 4:30 pm five days a week. We set-up our instruments to run over-night so we can start the day with data analysis and planning for the next set of experiments. A student coach provides guidance to new team members and discusses results.
Qualifications
  • You are currently studying for a master’s degree or equivalent in chemistry.
  • You’re fluent in English and German.
  • You can start between September and October 2023 for a period of ca. 3 months (exact timing to be discussed).
