There is a full range of back-end services that require customer support, including: disk space allocation, work area management, troubleshooting compute and special purpose servers, virtual machine and X support, Linux debugging activities, and automation solutions.
Key Qualifications
  • Customer-focused attitude with excellent customer service skills. Typically requires 3+ years of (Current) Unix System Administration experience in a large compute environment (or similar), e.g. EDA, Finance, Special Effects/Animation, Oil & Gas, Scientific Research or R&D environments. In addition, you will have sophisticated knowledge in the following:
    • GUI based software/protocols: VNC, X11
    • Shell environment knowledge (bash, tcsh)
    • Knowledge of scripting e.g. Shell, Perl or Python (preferred)
    • Knowledge of Mac OSX is helpful
    • Knowledge of large scale storage environments is advantageous, e.g. NetApp or Pure clustered storage
    • Knowledge and experience with monitoring tools is advantageous
    • Fluent in English (oral and written)
Description
You will be responsible for supporting internal hardware engineering users. Your role will include monitoring, triage and operations support of various queuing, storage, network, monitoring, application, and other infrastructure services. Responsibilities will include: Core Responsibilities: Support large scale compute environment, dealing with compute and storage through proven Unix/Linux skills and storage knowledge. Focus is on customer support and triage for issues related to infrastructure and environment. IN ADDITION, YOU WILL: - Solve UNIX systems. This may include connectivity and remote access issues, secure access, disk space allocation, file/directory permissions, and system error solving. - Install and configure Unix/Linux virtual machines (maximising proprietary automation tools) - Provision, resize and handle storage on a massive scale (using proprietary automation tools) - Demonstrate initiative and sound judgment within established guidelines and procedures to assist engineering customers in accessing systems and solving problems. - Be part of a global organization developing automation solutions for large scale compute environments. - Help define actions/mitigations to prevent repetitive customer requests based on your experience in the field. - Follow department guidelines to assist engineers in gaining access to project-related data. - You will use your customer service experience in support of Apple’s world-class engineering teams. Apple customer service engineering staff must possess the ability to effectively connect with engineers and co-workers over the phone, in person, and via email or chat. Therefore, excellent communication skills are a must.
Education & Experience
BA/BS Degree in a technical field.
